Welcome to the all new Silencing the Bell website.
I hope not to disappoint anyone who
remembers my previous site but this will not be anything
like it (well not much anyway). The title remains the same
because my aims are still the same. I want to use this
space to discuss ideas about education and learning. School
definitions of what education is and should be dominate our
society, so here is a space devoted to alternatives. I have
been inspired to start work now by Ivan Illich's book
'Deschooling Society' and I wanted to share the
inspiration. I am planning over the next year to re-read
some other books that have been influential and to raise a
few questions that occur to me along the way.
